Kindergarten Program Expands at NCCS

PRE-KINDERGARTEN PROGRAMS EXPAND AT NORTHERN CHAUTAUQUA CATHOLIC SCHOOL

The Northern Chautauqua Catholic School recently expanded its prekindergarten
programming to prepare more young children for kindergarten, and to alleviate some of
the strain working families in Chautauqua County face today. Prekindergarten programs
have been shown to have a positive impact on children's lives, providing long-term
benefits for students, families and communities that far outweigh the costs.

Building upon the success of its full day prekindergarten program for 4 year olds,
NCCS now offers high quality early care and educational activities for 3 year olds in both
full and half day classes. State certified prekindergarten teacher Barbara Crossan and
teacher aid Becky Eckstrom work to keep students on task in one-on-one and group
settings. The children are introduced to concepts in literacy, language arts, numbers,
exploring the environment, problem solving and creative expression that will be explored
in greater depth in kindergarten. Every child is provided with a proper balance of rest
and physical activities. Parents are given regular updates on their child’s progress.

In addition to daily instruction, the prekindergarten program at NCCS offers
weekly special classes in computers, art, music, Spanish, and physical education. The
family atmosphere at NCCS is particularly beneficial to very young learners. Older
students partner with prekindergarten children to read and learn together, a favorite time
for the 3 year olds who look forward to spending time with their buddies.

Enrollment for both 3 and 4 year old prekindergarten classes at NCCS is open and
ongoing for residents throughout the region. Families living in Dunkirk, Fredonia, Silver
Creek, Westfield, Ripley, Brocton, Cassadaga, Chautauqua, Mayville and other areas are welcome to schedule a visit at the school to see the full and half day programs in action.

Interested families should call the school at 366-0630 to schedule a visit and meet with
Principal Jenny Tilaro to learn more about the programs offered at NCCS.
