Emergency School Closings

Emergency School Closing:

  • General Policies — In the event of an emergency dismissal, children will be sent to their homeroom to await dismissal. Students will be dismissed through the front doors only. Parents or the individual designated to pick up the student should enter through the Washington Avenue doors. Students will be called. When possible, the media will be notified that the school is dismissing early. In the event the children are unable to leave the building at the end of the school day, school personnel will be responsible to provide for the children's health and safety due to inclement weather.

  • Weather —  in the event of inclement weather, NCCS will remain open or close independently of Dunkirk City School District. NCCS uses an automated calling system called One Call Now to inform families of school closings and other important information. Please note that we will only call if we are closed. If your home district is closed, you are NOT required to attend school. Our first priority is to the safety of our students and staff, and every effort is made to remain open if it is safe to do so.

  • Illness — Closing will be considered only when many teachers are absent due to illness and/or fifteen percent of the students are absent as a result of flu-like symptoms or other contagious illnesses.
